This is a very common question that we’ve encountered on many occasions. By default, the Ruler is not visible when PowerPoint is launched.
To see the Rulers, go to the View tab, Show section and turn on Ruler.
That’s it! Now the rulers will be visible automatically when PowerPoint is used.

I have been using Photoshop since version 2 (the dark ages of computer design) and just had Lori point out a cool feature I never knew existed!
I know PowerPoint is our topic, but I work in Photoshop virtually everyday preparing images for templates and presentations. In this case I was moving back and forth between PPT images that are measured in pixels and a print layout that was measured in inches. So, I was constantly going into the preferences and changing the rulers until Lori came over and pointed out a better way.
If you RIGHT-CLICK the ruler in Photoshop, it can instantly (and easily) be changed!

In PowerPoint, Photoshop, Word and many other applications you can turn on a ruler to confirm size, alignment, etc. Enter the very cool JRuler application!
Here we can see the PPTBlog banner is 740px wide.
– JRuler is a free download (download here).
– It does not need to be installed (just launch the .exe any time)
– It can be stretched to any length (maximum is your screen resolution)
– It floats on top of all applications and windows
– Hint: right-click on it for a number of additional tools and options. Open the JRuler.htm file included in the download for full details
