The animation for this entrance is very straight forward. There are 3 elements:
And there are just 3 animations, each an entrance animation.
1. Lens = Ascend, Fast
2. Reflection = Wipe – From Top, With Previous (but mannually adjusted to begin 9/10th of a second after the lens (set to 0.9), and Fast
3. Lens Flair = Fade, With Previous, Medium
That’s it. All of the effort was really done outside PPT, in Photoshop. Once the elements where one the slide it was pretty easy to apply the few needed animations.

The Blue Lens template I have used as an example was one of the concepts I created for a client. Obviously I ‘debranded’ it by removing any reference to a company or event, but now you can download the full template to review or use!

So here was my task – take this image (a very low quality .jpg)
and turn it into an animated slide to support the speaker’s analogy (“like nuclear fission, it all starts with one, and from your actions more can be created”!).
First was to recreate the nucleus balls as PPT objects. This was done by filling a circle with a gradient fill (shown in PPT2003).
With two versions of the 3D ball, yellow and blue, they were grouped into clusters.

So the display monitor for your presentation is not a “standard” resolution and you want don’t want to have black letterbox bars while your presentation is shown. The best option is to adjust the page size of the presentation to a height and width that matches the display size. But what do you adjust the page size too?
If you want to avoid the higher math needed, you can use a free little application created by Austin Myers over at Plays For Certain. The “Calculate PowerPoint Slide Size” does exactly what it says. Input the pixel size of the display, click the calculate button, and it does all the math for you, providing 3 page setup options that guarantee the presentation will fill every one of those pixels.

I often, as I am sure you do, have to download lots of files for a project (PowerPoint, Photoshop, images, PDFs, etc.). Unless all are on an FTP site I can access with an FTP application your browser limits you to 2 simultaneous downloads. Great if I was on a bandwidth limited dial-up modem, but I have a 15mb/s connection and want to download more.
The good news is this limitation can be overcome, but you have to do a bit of digging and adding values. I have all of my computers set to allow up to 10 simultaneous downloads. Here’s how:
1. Go to START >> RUN >> REGEDIT
2. Click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER
3. Click USER
4. Click SOFTWARE
5. Click MICROSOFT
6. Click WINDOWS
7. Click CURRENTVERSION
8. Click INTERNET SETTINGS
Now that you have burrowed deep into the OS, you need to add to new values (the ones that say let me download up to 10 files simultaneously).
9. Right-click anywhere in the right pane
10. Select NEW
11. Select DWORD VALUE
These next steps you will repeat twice, once for each needed value.
12. Double-click the newly created NEW VALUE #1 icon
13. In the Value Name area type “MaxConnectionsPerServer”
14. In the Value Date area type “10”
15. In the Base area click DECIMAL
16. Click okay
Do it again.
17. Repeat #12-16, but in the Value Name area type “MaxConnectionsPer1_OServer”
You are now free to download up to 10 files simultaneously (provided you have enough bandwidth with your internet connection)!

If you have multiple presentations, several applications and numerous windows explorers open – the task bar becomes crowded and confusing. For just situations, I use the free application ‘Task Arrange.’
This lets me group all of my presentations together, slide outlook to the far left, etc. Or another practical use (this week in particular) is designing a multi-screen show and being able to move the presentation tabs to the visual order (ie. left screen appears on the left, center in the center and right screen presentation is the right tab).

The final element was to create a placeholder for the financial information. I added another custom fill autoshape, this time a rectangle. After sized it was ‘sent to back’ and the appropriate text was added.
